Huffington Post blogger Kristen Houghton said that it makes sense, as if a couple had a good sexual relationship with their spouse, despite the fact that living together as man and wife was not possible, it did seem a shame to give it up altogether.
She said that a reason had been stated by her friend, who was involved in such a relationship, as with all the precautions that a couple takes, along with a common sense approach to avoid any STDs, they still feel uneasy to have sex with a new partner.
Houghton' friend said that with these people there is always a nagging fear about what they could have gotten as a parting gift from their previous partners, which can pretty much dampen the sexual urge if not put them out altogether.
The advantage of getting into a sexual relationship with your former spouse is that if you were the last person with whom your former partner had physical contact, you know you are safe.
Another reason that Houghton stated was that to hook up with your former partner is the great sex itself, as the couple know themselves physically and both of them know which erogenous buttons to push.
There's also a certain fun naughtiness in engaging in sex with a former spouse. There's the flirting, a feeling of seduction, and the idea of having a fling or pseudo-affair.
If you can keep it light and fun, it can be a sort of sex with a good friend situation.
As good as this seems, there could be serious problems continuing a 'marriage by sex only' relationship, especially if the couple are divorced and another problems could be that the couple are both 'married-to-someone-else-now.'
