This also provided researchers with the opportunity to study many cultural changes which took place at the time caste system evolved in India.
Teaming up with researchers in Hyderabad, Harvard Medical School professor of genetics David Reich looked into many hundreds of thousands of regions in people's genomes to find solid evidence that the northern and southern populations mixed; and this occurred 1,900 to 4,200 years ago.
The population mixture was found to be impactful which did leave traces in the DNA of people in all regions of India. All this came to a standstill around 2,000 years ago, after the implementation of the caste system.
