A newly divorced man named David Mikus has posted a public note on Facebook admitting that there were a lot of things he could have done differently to save his marriage and gave a list of "lessons" which he learnt from his divorce, the Huffington Post reported.
The note which garnered over 68,000 "likes" and over 193,000 "shares" suggests that one must never take their spouse for granted, never stop courting-dating them, and also never get lazy in love.
Mikus asks married couples to focus on what you love about your spouse and always see the best in them, and love them without expecting them to change.
He reminds couples to accept their own follies and not pass the blame. Also, give your spouse time and your focus and "be present" when they are around or when they are opening their heart to you, specially when they are upset.
It is important to be "vulnerable", to drop the mask and be willing to share your fears and feelings with your spouse, and also be quick to acknowledge your mistakes, he advises.
As laughter makes everything easier, couples should "be silly" and not take themselves too seriously, he adds.
Couples need to make a commitment to grow together and find common goals, dreams and visions to work towards and be willing to continually invest in creating something that can endure eternity, was another suggestion offered by him.
Lastly, according to him, one must forgive frequently and focus on the future rather than carrying weight from the past, and make 'love' the guiding principle which governs your choices.
