Victim of Both Raynaud's Syndrome and Systemic Sclerosis Needs Special Treatment for Her Skin

This means she needs to wear gloves all the time and take special care of her skin by moisturizing it for three hours a day.

Blood supply to certain parts of her body is affected due to Raynaud's syndrome. Systemic sclerosis results in the hardening and thickening of areas of the skin. This means Nicola needs to bathe in oil daily and also moisturize her skin. She also needs to wear gloves all the time. To prevent her body from seizing up, she must bathe using liquid paraffin everyday. The whole process of a bath takes her three hours.

Systemic sclerosis, or scleroderma, is an autoimmune condition where the body attacks its own tissues and this leads to hardening. Since Nicola Whitehill is a victim of both Reynaud's and systemic sclerosis (scleroderma), her skin and blood vessels harden and this causes a restriction in her movement.

She has tried several methods which include immunosuppressants, consuming steroids and even physiotherapy. She also applies creams and moisturizers.

Nicola's goal is to learn to understand her symptoms and come out with some solutions. She also plans to help other victims of this condition as well as increase awareness of this disease.
