Saudi Boy Becomes Youngest to Undergo Bariatric Surgery
Sep 20th 2013, 14:53

The doctors who performed the surgery, Mohammed Al Mohaidlya, Ahmed Sulimana and Horia Malawib, revealed that the boy weight more than 33 kilograms and had a body mass index of 41. The doctors added that he suffered from sleep apnea and bowing of the legs.

When his parents expressed concern over his troubled breathing, the doctors decided to perform a Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy after two failed attempts at dieting.

Stating that their case represents the first successful attempt of LSG in young children, the doctors wrote in their report, published in the International Journal of Surgery Case Reports, "To our knowledge LSG has never been tried in very young age children. We present here probably the first case report of the successful management of a two year old morbidly obese boy."
