A scientific study has found immense medicinal properties in Scottish heather honey, touted to be nature's best medicine.
According to new research, Scottish heather honey is very effective in treating infections much more than the famous Manuka from New Zealand.
Heather honey is now getting known for its properties to even kill strains of bacteria that cause MRSA and other types of bacteria as well, researchers from Glasgow University's School of Veterinary Medicine found.
Dr Patrick Pollock, an equine surgeon said these findings could be a great blessing for treating humans and animals.
"If we were able to use locally-sourced, cheaper honey as a wound dressing, it would be very beneficial particularly in poorer countries," said Dr Pollock.
Dr Pollock said: "Honey is useful in equine medicine, particularly on wounds to legs. There is not much fat on the lower half of horses' legs so can take a long time to heal, or even never fully heal at all."
In cases of injury, anti-bacterial honey is a blessing as it improves healing, cleans the wound and keeps it infection free.
