Laser Treatment Brings Relief to Family Suffering from Rare 'werewolf Syndrome'
Nov 8th 2013, 18:17

A Nepali woman and her three children from the village of Kharay in the Dolkha District are victims of Congenital Hypertrichosis Lanuginosa, which is an extremely rare condition also known as "werewolf syndrome".

This condition causes its victims to experience excessive hair growth on their bodies. Even the forehead gets covered with abnormal hair growth.

This syndrome has left Devi Budhathoki and her children Manjura, 14, Niraj, 12, and Mandira, 7, battle excessive hair growth on their foreheads and other parts of their bodies. The family traveled to a hospital near Kathmandu to find hope for their condition with the help of laser treatment.

Initially, the family's faces were shaved by technicians prior to undergoing laser hair removal treatment. This was done to reduce the thick hair.

The children have faced stigma and bullying due their abnormal appearance and this has affected them psychologically.

Hopefully, the laser treatment will give them a new beginning.
