Have You Heard of Exercise Allergy?
Mar 26th 2013, 05:33

It is a living hell and a reality for 33-year-old, Kasia Beaver from United Kingdom. If she exercises and sweats or experiences a racing heart, she faces a life threatening allergic reaction. She feels suffocated as her throat appears to shut, eyes swell up and she breaks into hives.

This mother of four children has a rare condition known as exercise-induced angioedema - or EIA which just a handful of people suffer from.

But Dr. Dennis Cardone, a sports medicine specialist at the NYU Langone Medical Center in New York, said, "Typically we see it in combination with another type of allergy, usually to food or hot weather."

Sometimes people eat peanuts or shell fish before they exercise and they could experience an allergic attack.

An allergy to exercise is not normally risky to life but in Beaver's case even activities like running for a bus or chasing after her children can actually trigger a life threatening attack.

Kasia Beaver has to be cautious at every step of her life to ensure she does not exert herself and trigger a serious allergic reaction.
