Men More Depressed Than Women If They Remain Childless
Apr 4th 2013, 14:46

The study was conducted by researchers at Keele University who will be presenting their findings at the British Sociological Association annual conference in London. The researchers found that men were as keen as women in wanting children but become more depressed, angry, isolated as sad when they are childless compared to women.

However the influences that promoted men and women to have children were different. While men wanted children in order to satisfy cultural, societal and family pressures, women cited personal desire and biological urge as major influences.

"There is very little research on the desire for fatherhood among men. My work shows that there was a similar level of desire for parenthood among childless men and women in the survey, and that men had higher levels of anger, depression, sadness, jealousy and isolation than women and similar level of yearning", lead researcher Robin Hadley said.
