Researchers at Temple University conducted the study to check whether the finding that adults eat larger portions when served in bigger bowls holds true even in children.

The researchers observed a group of 42 students at a private school in north Philadelphia over a period of eight days. For four days, the students ate from plates that were 7 inches in diameter while for the remaining four days, they ate from plates with a 10 -inch diameter.

"Studies show that when kids serve themselves more, they are going to eat more. Kids are much less complicated eaters than adults are. Most parents are just happy to get the food on the table. An appealing part of the findings is that they're relatively straightforward: serve on salad plates", lead researcher Jennifer Orlet Fisher said.
