Employee Health Insurance Impacts School Budget
Jun 27th 2013, 09:29

Under the new health law - there are regulations which stipulate that only 9.5% of the salary can be the employee's contribution. At the same time the same cover must be offered to all employees, so according to officials, maintaining the cover will be more expensive. By decreasing health covers the school would lose good employees.

This could also have more employees opting for health insurance plan. The Board after being presented with several health insurance options, agreed on a plan that would cost the district an excess of $2.56 million. Though the district has time till January 2014, the budget has to be worked out and keep the money available.

Apart from rise in costs due to health insurance, there were some other issues which also needed additional expenses. There were also discussions about possibly increasing the school breakfast and lunch prices by 25 cents as meal prices had not been increased for several years in a bid to keep the budget from burgeoning.

In a joint meeting with the Cheatham County Commission, the new budget could be discussed which was considerably higher than the last year.
