Research Findings to be Presented at American Diabetes Association Meeting

Findings from studies that explore a wide range of topics including hypoglycemia, the benefits of behavioral intervention, insulin pump therapy and fetal outcomes in diabetic women by researchers from Montefiore Medical Center and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University will be presented at the annual meeting of the American Diabetes Association, which begins Friday in Chicago.

This year's meeting will feature more than 1,200 presentations by experts on the latest diabetes research. Selected data to be presented by Montefiore/Einstein researchers include:
  • New Findings from Controlled Behavioral Interventions: The Bronx A1c Telephonic Behavioral Intervention Study - Embargoed until time of presentation. Presented by Elizabeth Walker, Ph.D., professor of medicine and of epidemiology and population health, Einstein, at 4:30 pm, June 21. (Abstract # 2-OR, McCormick Place Convention Center, Room W-192B)
  • Hypoglycemia in Hospitalized Patients; Etiology and Prevention - Is Hypoglycemia a Marker or Cause of Death? - Embargoed until 10 am, June 22. Presented by Joel Zonszein, M.D., director, Clinical Diabetes Center, and professor of clinical medicine, Einstein, at 8 am, June 22. (Symposium # AC-SY11, McCormick Place Convention Center W-375 )
  • Resveratrol Improves Insulin Sensitivity in Concert with Reduced Inflammation and "Browning" of White Adipose Tissue in Obese, Insulin Resistant Humans - Embargoed until time of presentation. Presented by Meredith Hawkins, M.D., the Harold and Muriel Block Chair in Medicine at Einstein, and attending physician, endocrinology, Montefiore, at 9:15 am, June 22. (Abstract #99-OR, McCormick Place Convention Center West Bldg. Room W-192B)
Dr. Hawkins' group will present four abstracts at the conference, with the other three examining how the brain regulates metabolism and inflammation.
