Experts also reassured that children respond very well to treatment and do not suffer any emotional problems or delays in development due to this problem.

The children are not shy or anxious. Surprisingly, they found that children who stutter displayed improved verbal and non-verbal abilities as compared to their peers.

'What we usually say to parents is you can afford to wait for 12 months before seeking help, providing the child does not appear to be too aware of the stutter, is not being teased or bullied and there are not other problems,' experts said.

Treatment and therapy is important if the problem persists and children respond very well. Patience is crucial in helping such children overcome stuttering.
