Researcher Justin Schmidt from the Southwestern Biological Institute, Arizona, has been bitten by 150 different bugs during his lifetime, which is why, he turned to develop a unique sting-o-meter which can effectively scale the pain caused by insect bites.
The scale on this strange yet cool sting-o-meter ranges from zero to four, with one meaning a minor pain and four leveling up to the drop-down worse pain you could imagine.
Being quite experienced himself, Schmidt claims that the worse and the most painful bite is from that of a bullet ant, which he claims, "'makes you want to lay down and die."
In contrast, the bite of a fire ant is much less painful. "They have this kind of sharp, piercing sting," he claimed.
He further compared the bite from a tarantula hawk to being hit by 20,000 volts!
On his unique scale, Mr. Schmidt has sorted out the bites from a fire ant as one, the bites from bumblebees and honeybees as two, the sting from warrior wasps, tarantula hawks and bullet ants to four.
