Bubble Wrap Gave Her the Breath of Life Oct 30th 2013, 10:27 Experts bubble wrapped her to retain her body heat and keep her alive. Her birth weight was just more than a pound. Fondly called "Bub" at home, Sofia's fight to survive is considered a miracle. She is now 4-years old and has just begun school. Sofia's mom Rebecca, said: "My pregnancy had been complicated from the beginning. I started bleeding at seven weeks and thought that I was losing Sofia then. She hung on until I got to 24 weeks pregnant but then I went into labour and doctors diagnosed me with an incompetent cervix which meant I couldn't hold my baby in my womb any longer." Sofia was delivered by caesarian and weighed just 1lb 8oz. Doctors had warned her that the baby's chances of survival are dim. Sofia was on life support for 13 weeks and underwent a heart surgery. She had 15 blood transfusions and had to be resuscitated many times. The girl finally won and was discharged from the hospital during her fifth month. "I've called her Bub since the day she was born because of the bubble wrap that saved her life. When she put her school uniform on for the first time, I burst into tears. I couldn't believe that my bubble wrap baby was actually starting school. She has come on such a long journey," Rebecca said. Source-Medindia
