MP Warns New Rules for Sugar Content in Jam may Spell End for Traditional British Breakfast
Oct 31st 2013, 14:33

A Liberal Democrat MP in Britain has warned the government that implementing new rules regarding sugar content in jam and marmalade may spell an end for the traditional British breakfast, leaving it 'tasting like mud' favored by French, Germans and Americans.

Tessa Munt, the MP for Somerset, warned that cutting down the minimum level of sugar content in jam from 60 percent to 50 percent will force people to buy 'fruit butter' which will be less tasty, dull in color and will not last as long.

"I'm actually quite worried because I think this is going to be the end of the British breakfast as we know it. If these regulations change, we'll end up with something much more like the French and German product - and worse still the Americans - where they have things a bit like a fruit butter or a fruit spread. It's dull colors that don't taste the same and they certainly don't last as long", Munt told the BBC.
