It probably may not be due to ineffective assistance of counsel, but it surely adds another layer of communication that is often inept and costly. Attorneys also do take advantage to cash in on the situation. Some wish they would have been much harsher up front and gotten softer over the years. Meanwhile, others regret they had not been in such a hurry to get a divorce.
